Smoothing a little bit of lubricant onto your hot spots can help ease penetration and
make sex even more pleasurable. But which is best for you? Dr. Sandor Gardos, a board-certified
sexologist and CEO of MyPleasure (www.mypleasure.com) says that petroleum-based and oil-based lubricants
destroy latex and should never be used with condoms, diaphragms or cervical caps. Petroleum-based
lubricants also irritate the vagina, but oil-based lubes are good for vaginal intercourse and masturbation,
although they stain. Water-based lubricants don't, plus they can be used with latex and all barrier
birth controls. "[They] often dry out during [sex, but] are quickly revived with [water or saliva],"
says Dr. Gardos. The highly concentrated, silicone-based lubricants retain their lubricating qualities
even better than water-based lubes--and they're waterproof.
