Question

Every now and then, my husband and I like to play little games in the bedroom
involving handcuffs. Sometimes he handcuffs me; other times, I handcuff him. It
really adds some spice to our lovemaking. The problem is that the next day we
always notice small scratches and bruises on our wrists, which is a little
embarrassing. Anything we can do to prevent it?

Playing with handcuffs can be very exciting, but it is definitely not for everyone.
I would consider this to be much more "advanced" sex, where you really need to
know what you are doing and take appropriate safety precautions. Most important:
Make sure you know where the key is and test it thoroughly each time. Next, if
you are role-playing at all, be certain you have an agreed upon a signal that
means you wish to be released.
Finally, under normal circumstances you should limit the time either of you is
in handcuffs to about a half-hour, stopping sooner if your hands start to go numb.
As far as avoiding scratches and bruises, the first thing you need to do is make
sure you are using real handcuffs and not cheap ones bought at a novelty store.
Cheap cuffs are generally thinner and have sharper edges. They are also more
prone to become jammed. A good pair of handcuffs should cost you at least $30. Next, if you enjoy
play struggling, you should make sure
to wrap some cloth around the wrists before applying the cuffs. Other than that,
use common sense. I know you might not notice it at the time, but try to be
careful if you feel any pain.
So have fun, but try to be careful, okay?
