Obviously, there is intercourse, but that made me start wondering whether there is such a thing as outercourse? I seem to have heard that term somewhere. But, what is it?
I doubt you will find it in any dictionary, but there is indeed something known as "outercourse." I first encountered this word in the late 80s, when different groups were trying to come up with new ways of encouraging safer sex. Since it is the exchange of bodily fluids that carries the greatest level of risk, the idea was to come up with alternative ways of having sex that didn't involve penetration of any kind. These practices were dubbed outercourse.
Basically, outercourse is any sensual, erotic activity you can think of that doesn't include penetration. Examples would be massage, mutual masturbation, kissing, candle wax, tickling, etc. In some ways, these activities are similar to foreplay, minus any penetration, but the idea is to do them instead of, not as a prelude to, intercourse. Why not give them a try? See what creative ways you can come up with to pleasure a partner without penetration. It can be a lot of fun, and, as an added bonus, is quite safe! See our abstinence program for more information on the range of sexual expression.
